Temporary relief from acute water supply has come the way of residents of Langtang South Local Government following His Excellency, Barr Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, Executive Governor of Plateau State intervention with a daily supply of 20,000L of water to the locality. Langtang South has been facing an aged long severe water scarcity, lack of access to clean and safe drinking leading to various health problems and hardships.
As an interim solution, the government of Mutfwang on recognizing the urgent need for a portable water supply in Langtang South took the proactive measure to address the issue. According to www.pointblank.com.ng, the people’s sensitive measure is being carried out in collaboration with local authorities and community members who coordinate the distribution of water to villages.
Speaking to Pointblank correspondent, Hon Ponzip Sanda aka Zippa, Liasion Officer to Sen AVM Napoleon Binkap Bali (Rtd) said “due to severe water scarcity in most areas of Langtang South LGA, as a result of the drying up of the Mabudi Dam which is the main source of water, His Excellency Governor Caleb Mutfwang has kept to his promise by approving the immediate commencement of supply of 20,000 liters of portable drinking water daily to various Wards and Communities in Langtang South LGA. This is a temporary measure while a more permanent solution is being considered. The exercise has started on Monday 22 April 2024”.
Pharmacist Julfa Kumswa, a citizen of Langtang South commended the governor’s empathetic gesture saying that “the government’s effort to reduce the water scarcity in my locality, Langtang South is highly commendable and shows a commitment to the well-being of our people and this is good governance. At least millions of naira will be saved from treating water borne related illnesses while a healthy and productive population is guaranteed. This is very important as the people face the farming season and Langtang South being the food hub of the state needs this so that food security can be assured”.
He however called for permanent solution to the problem “the government should not stop at providing an interim solution to the acute water scarcity by alleviating the immediate hardships faced by residents but should also lay the groundwork for a more sustainable water supply system in the future by constructing more dams and sinking boreholes”.
Also commending the government’s effort, Mr Jangfa Binven, the Legal Adviser of PDP in Langtang South said “we are certain that the government of Barr Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang will prioritize the issue of water scarcity in Langtang South and work towards a long-term solution that will ensure access to clean and safe drinking water for all residents because he is a listening leader. The Time Is Now for the health and well-being of Langtang to be highlighted through provision of portable drinking water”.
Changgwak Changde Dashe, former Secretary Langtang South Development Asscoiation applauded Governor Mutfwang for coming to the aid of the Local Government but just like others, he called for a lasting solution to the pereneial water scarcity. He said “The Time Is Now Mantra government of Mutfwang has taken a progressive step towards addressing the acute water scarcity issue in Langtang South by providing an interim solution. It is however, imperative that the government solves this problem once and for all with a sustainable water supply system for the community. We are quite pleased to have this intervention and let me appeal to those coordinating it to ensure that all wards and communities are served without recourse to political or party affiliation”
