Celebrations, commendations and cheers vibrated across the hills of Plateau State as the all conquerous team of Mikang Local Government football team returned home from their commanding triumph in Ghana.
This victorious outing is a gentle reminder of the good old days of sports triumphs on the Plateau especially football when virtually every National team is dominated by players from the state
Acknowledging this achievement, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang commended the sacrifices of the players for overcoming all challenges to emerge victorious.
The highly elated Governor admonished players to be disciplined and hardworking to ensure longevity in their football career. He lamented the situation where talented promising players ended up as street beggars simply because of indiscipline. “No matter how talented you are, without discipline you won’t attain greatness so therefore you must be very disciplined. Only through discipline shall you reap the reward of your hardwork” said Governor Mutfwang.
The sports loving Mutfwang pledged to rejuvenate the state’s sporting prowess and return it to its former glory by ensuring the successful completion of the New Zaria Road Stadium.
The victorious Mikang Team had five players selected for export to European countries.
Chairman of Mikang Local Government, Hon Daniel Kunmi while presenting the players to the governor expressed profound gratitude God Almighty, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Central Bank of Nigeria, the driver of team and the Directors of Mikang Local Government. He applauded the endurance of the players and tenacity for first conquering Nigeria before going on to subdue Africa
The governor was flanked by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Arc Samuel Nanchang Jatau, FNIA, Hon Satmak Chief of Staff to the governor, Hon Ephraim Usman – Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Ubandoma Joshua Laven – Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Commissioner for Agriculture and Special Adviser on Inter Party Affairs amongst many government functionaries
The Plateau State Football Association was led by Hon Dr Suleiman Yahaya Kwande ably represented by Hon Habu Patrick Pakwai, the second Vice Chairman. Hon Dr Suleiman Yahaya Kwande was unavoidably absent because he was on a national assignment outside the state
