The Pan-Yoruba Socio Political group, Afenifere has told Nigerians not to blame President Bola Ahmed Tinubu but the former President, Muhammadu Buhari for infecting Nigeria’s economic system with untold hardship due to his ineptitude and administrative deficiency. “Economic downturn was caused by Buhari’s administration which was built on a platform of hope and a defective federalism” says Afenifere. The group said President Tinubu is only nursing an already bedridden economy and as a sick person, bitter pills must be swallowed for healing to come

In a statement titled: “What is Tinubu’s Sin” and jointly signed by the group’s Publicity and Organizing Secretaries, Mr Jare Ajayi and Kole Omololu respectively, the group said the immediate past administration of President Buhari only set a timebomb for President Tinubu with his pathetic political and economic policies which is flaring up now.  The Yoruba group accused President Buhari of deliberately not making any budgetary provision for oil subsidies in last year’s budget which compelled President Tinubu to remove subsidy in his inaugural speech.

The organization accused the beneficiaries of Buhari’s administration who never saw anything wrong with his policies for suddenly finding their voices and attempting to make things ungovernable for Tinubu. “Those sleeping and snoring during the eight years of Buhari suddenly woke up. They forgot that these remedial actions should have been taken many years back. The major sins of PBAT reside in his daring to contest and win the presidential election and make these decisions, which will hurt in the short term but bring us back to reality in the long run,” the organization said.

Afenifere advised that Nigerians need to be adequately informed about the current economic challenges that are not peculiar to Tinubu’s administration but a global problem. This, the group suggested can be carried out by vibrant Ministry of Information, National Orientation Agency and Town Hall Meetings.
