Plateau State University Bokkos, Suspends Exams Amidst Deteriorating Security Condition As One Student Shot Dead By Unknown Gunmen And Four Others Allegedly Wounded During Aftermath Protest By The Military


Plateau State University, (PLASU) located in Bokkos has temporarily suspended the school’s examination due to worsening security challenges in the locality.

According to reports, Chikam community, where students of the young university reside due to lack of hostel accommodation was subdued by unknown gunmen last night leaving a student death

Yakubu F. Ayuba, Registrar of the University in a statement on Friday, 19th April, 2024 said “The Plateau State University woke up to the sad news of another heartless attack on Chikam, a community close to the university. The sad event led to the loss of a 200 level, Computer Science student of the University residing in Chikam, by name Dading James Jordan.  

“This is coming despite the relentless effort by the Plateau State Government, security agencies, the Management of the University and other stakeholders at improving the security situation on our campus and the surrounding communities. Unfortunately, the enemies of the University and the state brought this dastardly attack leading to the loss of our dear student.  

“The Vice Chancellor and the entire Management convey their condolences to the family of the deceased, the student body and the university community.   

“In view of this sad development, Management has declared a two day mourning period on Friday 19th and Saturday, 20th April, 2024. Accordingly, all the examinations earlier scheduled for Friday 19th and Saturday, 20th April, 2024 are hereby suspended.  

“While calling on our students to remain calm and law abiding, we wish to call on the security agencies to beef up security around the university in order to secure staff and students as we look into other ways of making the University more secure

Students Union Government Accuses Military of Complacency and Conspiracy

Meanwhile, the Students Union Government, throught the Vice President, Mercy Gyang has accused the military of giving away instead of standing in their defence to allow the gunmen overrun the students’ community resulting to the death of one of the students.

Speaking live on phone during Jay Fm’s news at noon, the student leader said the Military apart from leaving them exposed, shot four of their students when they were protesting at the gate of the school to draw the attention of the State Government to the plight of the students. She called for more Mobil Police reinforcement to the school

Bokkos Women Took To The Street Chanting Anti Military Songs:

On Friday, 19 April 2024 Bokkos women took to the streets chanting anti military songs in hausa “Ba mu so soji”, literally meaning, we don’t want soldiers.

The women in their numbers expressed disappointment with the manner the have been rather left exposed than protected by the military.

It will be recalled that during the Christmas eve attacks on Mangu, Bokkos and Barkin Ladi LGAs, Barr Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, the governor while receiving the Chief of Defense Staff, Gen Christopher Musa re-echoed his people’s displeasure over the military complacency to the military boss.
