In a concerted effort to ensure that Tarok Youths make the most of the ever-evolving technological landscape, advance their businesses and escape poverty significantly, the National President of Tarok Progressive Youth Association, TAPYA, Amb Miri Timnan Nyantau (M.T.N) on Tuesday, 5th November, 2024 led the National and District Executives on a courtesy call to the Director General of Plateau State Microfinance Development Agency (PLASMIDA) to seek collaboration with the State government agency saddled with the responsibility of developing Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the state towards job creation, and poverty reduction
Addressing the DG of PLASMIDA, Hon Bomkam Ali Wuyep and his management team at the Agency’s Corporate Headquarters in Jos, Amb Nyantau said “poverty, idleness and insecurity are intricately linked together hence the need to be purposeful on reducing them through skills acquisition and capacity development for robust businesses.
He stressed that the need for digital skills and entreprenuership has become more pronounced, particularly among youth and PLASMIDA being one of the most equipped government agencies to train the youth with such skills is the natural destination to look up to
“Digital skills in a world where technology permeates every aspect of life have become indispensable because it helps the youth with a range of competencies, including the ability to navigate online platforms, use software applications, and engage with social media responsibly” he added
Giving an insight into the Association’s activities under his watch so far, Amb Nyantau said TAPYA prioritizes security because it believes that no any meaningful economic activity can take place in an insecure place therefore, they have began the construction of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Divisional Office in Langtang to help fight crimes.
“Having made significant progress in the area of security, we are fully focused on the economic empowerment of our youths and PLASMIDA is a strategic partner that can help us realize this priority”
“TAPYA has identified digital skills, capacity development for robust business as key areas for youth development. We understand that in todayβs job market, proficiency in digital tools is no longer optional; it is essential.”
He continued “with the increasing reliance on technology in various sectors, young people equipped with these skills can better compete for employment opportunities and contribute to their communities”
Responding, the elated DG, Hon Wuyep congratulated the new TAPYA leadership on its victory at the August 10th 2024 polls and commended the leadership for their first ever visit to the agency in its 8 years life span.
He noted that the visit underscores TAPYA’s genuine intention to empower Tarok youths who are key in the sustenance of peace and unity of the state
Hon Wuyep as a way of introduction said “PLASMIDA is dedicated to promoting financial literacy and facilitating microfinance initiatives in the state. Our mission is to reduce poverty and encourage entrepreneurship by providing capacity to Small and Medium Scale Enterprises as well as individuals”
“PLASMIDA enables people to understand financial concepts and also leverage digital tools for managing finances, marketing their products or services online, and accessing broader markets”.
He said skills and entrepreneurship are the driving forces of today’s market hence the need for all to acquire them.
Speaking further, Hon Wuyep stressed that “market forces are not determined by white collar jobs that are scarce to secure but by artisans and business men”.
He graciously granted TAPYA’s request to have some of her members trained in digital skills. The DG said 100 Tarok youths can be trained segmenting them into 20 per batch by their proficient staff that were trained by the German Partners, GIZ
On cash grants for businesses, Hon Wuyep said scheme under his agency through the support of Gov Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, who he said is passionate about reducing poverty in the state, is set to commence next year with a single digital interest rate and assured that once it starts, Tarok youth shall be amongst the early beneficiaries
