The Kaduna State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed a devastating auto crash on the Kano-Zaria Highway, resulting in the loss of 12 lives and leaving 28 others with various injuries.

According to Sector Commander Kabir Nadabo, the accident, which occurred at Tashar Yari village around 7:30 am, was attributed to wrongful overtaking, overspeeding, and overloading by an articulated truck bearing registration number KTG 454 ZZ. The vehicle, en route to Kano, was involved in the tragic incident.

Nadabo lamented, “The cause of the crash is wrongful overtaking, over speeding, and overloading which sadly resulted in 12 fatalities recorded.” He noted the presence of local government officials and unit commanders at the scene to assess the situation.

Investigations revealed that 40 individuals were involved, with 28 sustaining injuries and 12 losing their lives. The injured were promptly transported to Makarfi General Hospital for treatment.

The owner of the vehicle, currently in Azare, Bauchi State, has been contacted and directed to report to the RS1.1 Kaduna Sector Command. Regrettably, the driver of the trailer is reportedly among the deceased.

Nadabo emphasized the preventable nature of such accidents and pledged ongoing efforts to engage stakeholders, particularly transport unions, in advocating for safe driving practices. He urged motorists to prioritize safety, highlighting the dangers of excessive speeding, overloading, reckless driving, and phone use while driving.

Expressing gratitude, Nadabo thanked the Kaduna State government for its unwavering support of FRSC initiatives and acknowledged the media’s collaboration in promoting safety awareness.
