In a concerted effort to arrest the cholera outbreak bedeviling some communities in Kanam Local Government Area, the member representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, has drafted community health experts and medical consumables worth millions of Naira to the affected communities, with the view to halting the spread of the pandemic.
A rapid response medical team led by Dr Gofung Cornelius Bewok, was at the palace of the Emir of Kanam earlier today to pay homage to the royal father, where a sensitization talk was held with traditional rulers from affected communities on the best ways to manage the situation.
Religious leaders were equally intimated on the need to foster a hygienic lifestyle as a panacea to curbing the spread of the disease.
The JNI Chairman in the area, Alh. Muhammad Auwal Auta was full of kind words to the lawmaker for his timely intervention through sensitization and provision of medical aid to the victims, acknowledging that it was the best approach to curtail the spread of the disease.
The CAN Chairman, Rev. Micah Tongdaba also applauded the lawmaker’s initiative, stressing that Gagdi has always been alive to his responsibilities by responding rapidly to issues bordering on the wellbeing of his constituents.
The Medical Superintendent in charge of General Hospital Dengi, Dr Dubi Koplama, while receiving the supply, acknowledged the various interventions the lawmaker had embarked upon, with the view to keeping the hospital in good shape to provide the needed services to patients. Dr Dubi cited the installation of solar lights and public toilets in the hospital as some of Gagdi’s earlier interventions to the hospital.
Other speakers at the program took turns to eulogize the lawmaker for his numerous interventions to communities within the local government that aimed at fostering their wellbeing.
The Hakimin Garga, Alh. Garba Mohammed Bawa and the Imam of JIBWIS Central Mosque, Mallam Umar Adam Hussaini, said the provision of potable drinking water through massive drilling of boreholes to several communities within the local government has helped in taming the spread of such disease, otherwise the consequences would have been unimaginable.
Meanwhile, the program continues tomorrow with a sensitization talk at the Dengi market square, while women groups would be engaged on Saturday, to ensure the message sinks down to the remotest parts of the local government.
