As cost of living keeps skyrocketing with inevitable hunger and starvation reigning supreme in Nigeria, Nigerians in Ibadan, the Oyo state South West Nigeria, on Monday, 19th February, 2024, have taken to the streets in protests to ventilate their grievances and relate their pathetic situation to President Bola Tinubu

The protesters numbering thousands carrying placards besieged the city capital halting vehicular movements and paralyzing businesses. Just a few weeks ago, similar protests have rocked the cities of Niger and Kano states.

A protester wrote, “Tinubu you are a ripper, I wasted my volt” (he meant Vote but due to hunger he spelt it as “volt”)

Others were seen shouting ‘Tinubu Olè’ and ‘renewed shege!’, literally translated as renewed difficulty, a direct mockery of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Mantra of renewed hope

Another protester who spoke in Yoruba said: “Garri is now our best food. We got Garri cheaper during Goodluck Jonathan regime. We said it’s our turn, Yoruba’s turn (Emilokan), doesn’t mean we won’t be able to eat again or is it until we d!e of hunger” he lamented.

“People don’t understand that elections have consequences!. And until we begin to vote, elect and appoint leaders on the basis of competence, character, capability, integrity and devoid of nepotism, bigotry, tribalism, religion etc things will continue to get worse everyday” said another protester
