A new executive committee for Plateau State University Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society (PLASU SMCS), have taken over the administration of the society, in a handing-over ceremony which took place in the university, today, with a call to be responsible to the offices they occupy.
The call was made in an address, by the chairperson of the electoral committee, Dr (Mrs) Rahila Dantong, who used the opportunity to call on members to eschew bitterness and forget about any differences that had rocked the society in recent past. She stressed the need for all to put heads together for the speedy growth and development of the society.
Dantong who thanked all the contestants that won elections into various offices and those that did not win but still showed their allegiances to the society to keep the good spirit. She said, “I enjoin you all to continue in that good spirit and support the new EXCO members, just as we all have a responsibility to see to the development of our great cooperative society”
In his maiden address, new president of the cooperative society, Nimmyel Nansel Sabo, who said, “by the grace of God, we shall set the ball rolling, immediately, as we settle down for business”, pointed out that, the cooperative society, under his leadership, intends to build a permanent office accommodation for the society, employ a clerical/administrative staff, acquire and develop a robust Accounting Software and establish a water factory. Nimyel mentioned other feats they intend to accomplish before the end of their two-year tenure to include; review of existing bye-laws of the society and re-opening of shares among other laudable initiatives.
The new president pleads for unalloyed support of members through good counsel, prayers and constructive criticisms for them to succeed. He revealed that, relevant committees will be constituted to partner with EXCO in other to achieve their goals and stated that, they will build on the foundation laid by their predecessors.
The out-gone president, Dangwong, Daniel Pam, in his farewell message, said, “my journey as the President of this great and amiable Cooperative Society for the past six years, began way back in May, 2018, with a blueprint to vigorously pursue, for the growth of the system” He said his tenure as immediate past president would not have been successful, without good and formidable teams, which include, congress, members of various committees constituted within the periods of his two tenures, PLASU Management that provided the enabling environment for the society to thrive and praised members of his executive committee, who were the implementers of resolutions reached at different levels.
Dangwong, in his handing-over document, prides, as he presented a strength of six hundred and forty two active members to the new EXCO and pointed out achievements recorded during his stay in office, from 2018 to 2024, as; amendment and production of the society’s Bye-laws, training and retraining of both EXCO and members to local and international workshops and seminars, the introduction of loan restructuring which brought a sigh of relief to members from sourcing money outside to liquidate before obtaining new loan facilities, initiation and implementation of shares, huge profit realized from sales of land properties at Kwang
Others are, introduction of a partial Accounting Software which, to some extent lessened the work burden on the Financial Secretary, collaborative effort for the establishment of Microfinance Bank with PLASU Management with a committee already constituted to work out modalities and proposals for the establishment of water factory, bakery and a day-care, among others.
The immediate past president stressed that, activities of the cooperative is lame duck by lack of permanent office structure and permanent staff to man cooperative’s office. He expressed optimism that the new executive committee will do better for the growth of the cooperative society.
The Oath Commissioner, Barrister Alex Kaze, administered separate oaths of office to the new EXCO members and President. He cautioned that, oath taking is more than a ritual, it is a covenant between oath takers and God.
Kaze asked them to take the exercise very serious and opined that, in a situation where anyone thinks that they cannot keep to their oaths, they are at liberty to step down, before commencement of oath taking.
The new executive committee members are;
Nimmyel Nansel Sabo, President, Dikko Fwangshak, Vice President, Golbia Polycarp, Secretary General, Beatrice Bitkop, Assistant Secretary General, Deborah Davou, Treasurer, Ufulul Mapis, Financial Secretary. Others include, Amas Amagon, Public Relations Officer, Bigun Nanbyen, Legal Adviser and Dangwong Daniel, Ex Officio
