An International Human Rights Activist and National Coordinator of Economic Freedom Fighters, EFF Nigeria, Comrade T.N Timkat has condemned in strong terms the action of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for exclusion of People Democratic Party, PDP from the Plateau State Re-run election scheduled for today, Saturday 3rd February 2024, saying it’s dangerous to the survival of democracy in Nigeria. The Freedom Fighter, Comrade Timkat fumes at the INEC action while addressing Media Practitioners in Jos, the capital city of Plateau State earlier on Friday.
While interacting with media practitioners in Jos, Comrade TN Timkat said; it is quite pathetic that INEC which is meant to be absolutely Independent has now turned as toy tool of anti-democratic politicians who always choose path of impunity and backdoor to power without respect to the rules of law. He said “It is shameful that INEC has abandoned it’s power of Independence and turned out as a tool of anti-democratic politicians who do not mean well for the masses as they scheme their way to power through the backdoor”. The International Freedom Fighter warned that “such action is dangerous to the survival of democracy in Nigeria “.
Accordingly, the Human Rights Activist explained that the implications of INEC action for exclusion of the strongest political party, PDP from participating in the Rerun election is harmful to the survival of democracy as well capable of causing avoidable conflict amongst electorates”.
Comrade Timkat lamented that “INEC as a regulatory body for the conduct of National elections in Nigeria shouldn’t be biased in performing it constitutional responsibilities. Exclusion of PDP from participating in the rerun even when the Supreme Court passed verdict on the validity of the party mean INEC is no longer independent but now serving as tool of manipulation of anti-democratic politicians”. He continued that “the verdict of Supreme Court is final putting aside judgment of Appeal Court”.
Comrade Timkat advised patriotic citizens in Plateau North to vote out such anti-democratic politicians who do not mean well for the masses rather prefer backdoor to power”.
In a clarion call, he said “fellow citizens in the North, time has come to demonstrate your patriotism by voting out anti-democratic of APC, LP who prefer backdoor to power and elect credible leaders in any political party such as ADP or anyone with qualified candidates”.
Comrade Timkat also advised candidates of PDP to approach the competent court and seek for justice. “As Freedom Fighters, we condemned in totality the Exclusion of PDP from participating in the rerun election and request for justice” he concluded
