The effectiveness of Sports as an indispensable building block for peace, unity and socioeconomic transformation has been emphasized by the Special Adviser to Plateau State Governor on Youth Mobilization and Empowerment, Hon Joshua Hitler Pwajok
Hon Pwajok laid the emphasis when speaking on the need to unite Plateau youth as a critical step towards achieving endearing peaceful coexistence and empowerment on Friday, 22nd March, 2024 a guest on the 3rd Interactive Session of Pointblank News Blog. He said “There is no denying the fact that Sports is an integral unifying factor if you want to achieve security, safety of lives and property”.
Recounting his experience at Vicampro Agro Limited, Pwajok noted that “one of the key things that I advocated was the initiation of a football tournament called the VICAMPRO Champions Cup because sports is a good diversionary therapy from the scourge of drug abuse, insecurity and a whole lot of social vices. Sports is one of the major factors for us to advise His Excellency to key into”.
The Special Adviser commended Governor Mutfwang’s wisdom in the appointment as Honouring Special Adviser on Sports of Mikel Obi, one of Nigeria’s finest footballer who started his trade from Jos. He said the strategy was deliberate to return Plateau into the limelight of world sporting circle.
He mentioned that in a deliberate strategy to enhance sports, he was “working on a Sports document that would be a framework for a work-plan that would be submitted to His Excellency” He said deep thinking would be given to the document because he would be consulting widely with stakeholder and expressed optimism that the governor who is a sports loving personality wouldn’t hesitate to ensure its full implementation.
Viewing football away from just entertaining and athleticism, but from the empowering angle of it, Hon Pwajok said “we have a pool of abundant sporting talents on the Plateau and sports is now business, sports is now a means to generating revenue for the state, country and individuals. Plateau State should make deliberate attempts to invite scouts for talent hunts in different sports and also encourage marathon events on the Plateau”
He advocated for the reinvigoration of the Ministry of Youth and Sports to be more engaging that in the end the talents discovered would be exported. Called for Sports facilities resuscitation and revival of Inter Schools Sporting Competitions
