Serious voters apathy is currently being witnessed in the rerun elections for Plateau North Senatorial District and Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency seats.
Our correspondents who visited Fobur, Zarazong, Tafawa Balewa, Apata, ECWA Staff, Angwan Jarawa, Rwang Pam Township Stadium, Unigangs at Gangere, D.B Zang and some parts of Bukuru reported that the voters apathy is on a record high. For instance, a Polling Unit of over 150 voters has only 3 voters that have voted. Though there is still time for that to change
The case is however, not the same for places like Rikkos, Angwan Rogo, Angwan Rimi, Angwan Rukuba and Kabong with Tudun Wada turnout getting more impressive as at the time of this report.
Some voters who were seen chatting and carrying out mainly house chores that spoke to www.pointblank.com.ng attributed the low turn out to the low confidence they have in the electoral empire. “INEC is no longer partial, regardless of the votes, they will announce who pleases them” said a voter who wouldn’t give his name to us. Another one cited the cold weather as the reason for low turnout but expressed optimism that, that could change before 2pm.
www.pointblank.com.ng observed that the candidates of the All Nigerian People’s Party, ANPP and Africa Democratic Party, ADP are likely to spring surprises. While the ADP candidate could enjoy the sympathy of the PDP whose logo was excluded from the ballot, the ANPP Candidate was last night endorsed by a popular religious scholar in the state as the candidate for senatorial seat
The House of Representatives contest however might take a different turn. Most voters who spoke to www.pointblank.com.ng said they were after candidates and not party. LP candidate might cruise to victory but he has the PRP candidate to contend with as PRP was equally endorsed by the same religious scholar for the position of House of Representative.
The elections are however, relatively peaceful with significant presence of security agencies seen everywhere while restriction of movement is strictly enforced. Vehicles on elections duty were stopped and searched to ensure there is no impersonation.
