… There must be condition precedent before any talk of subsidy removal should be entertained. Certain things must be in place, in terms of infrastructure and people-oriented policies that could absolve the impact of such removal” – Tinubu in 2011 to Goodluck

The war of words in the blame game between the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his predecessor, President Muhammadu Buhari might just be starting.

This is eminent as a founding father member of the All Progressives Congress, APC and former Minister of Youth and Sports Development during President Buhari between 2015 – 2019, Barr Solomon Selkap Dalung, has fired a stray bullet at President Tinubu asking him to perform the Lagos miracle he preached during campaigns. Dalung took to his “X” handle, formerly known as twitter to combat the President

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made reference to Lagos transformation as his strongest selling point while canvassing for votes from Nigerians. The media sensationally tagged it “Lagos Miracle”.

In what appears to be a direct mockery and challenge on President Tinubu to quietly deliver on his mandate and stop blaming his predecessor President Muhammadu Buhari, the former APC Gubernatorial Aspirant in Plateau State said “blaming @MBuhari for economic woes cannot address the economic situation confronting the people. Can bulk trading be the only solution of @officialABAT & his economic team? The pregnant situation deserves urgent prescriptions. Hunger & high cost of living is at unbearable level”

Barr Solomon Selkap Dalung, Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, 2015 – 2019

The fearless and eloquent social advocate submitted that “if @officialABAT deploy the same energy, knowledge, tactics & money during elections  tribunal to deal with Nigeria security & economic challenges, things will change”. He questioned “why the steam suddenly changed to blaming Daura?”

The confrontational and courageous politician then pulled the trigger “you have snatched power, oya perform your Lagos Miracles”.

Dalung said “all mercenaries hired for paradigm shift for blame game failed to explain the reckless economic policies of subsidy withdrawal without shock absorber mechanisms, floating the naira without stimulating production, corruption & high governance cost. Is @MBuhari also responsible?”

He warned that “Nigerians cannot sacrifice under rudderless leadership has @officialABAT government accounted for proceeds of subsidy withdrawal since May 29th 2023?. What moral high grounds are they blaming @MBuhari who left fx at 700 per dollar, rice #35,000 per bag, cement #3,000 per bag, all these have tripled”.

In a polite reminder to President Tinubu without necesaarily mentioning it, the Igbarman O’Tarok carpeted those appealing for sacrifice saying “all those appealing for sacrifice are dishonest, what else are the people expected to sacrifice their lives? All imperatives of survival has been snatched by @official ABAT IMF induced economic policies. Yet the body language of @officialABAT is that of owambe. Shame…”

Going dowm memory lane, www.pointblank.com.ng recalls that President Tinubu who was leading the opposition party then led a protest and warned rthen, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan of the consequences of fuel subsidy removal without “condition precedent’.

Tinubu on the 12th December, 2011 warned President Jonathan against fuel subsidy removal saying “My party has taken a position and that is my own position also. There must be condition precedent before any talk of subsidy removal should be entertained. Certain things must be in place, in terms of infrastructure and people-oriented policies that could absolve the impact of such removal”

Tinubu concluded in 2011 with a challenge “I challenge the Jonathan’s government to hold a referendum on the fuel subsidy issue, to let Nigerians decide, just like it was done in Greece. That is the essence of democracy, which is a government for the people, of the people and by the people”.
