The former Director General of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential campaign and immediate past Governor of Plateau State, Senator Simon Bako Lalong has appealed to Nigerians to be a little patient with the policies of President Bola Tinubu assuring that they will yield the desired results soonest.
The Immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment made the appeal in Yola, the Adamawa State capital while addressing the forum of former Speakers of Houses of Assembly. Lalong said that Nigeria needs their experiences to wade through predominant hardship.
Lalong, who was Plateau State House of Assembly Speaker for Seven uninterrupted years between 2000 and 2007, spoke on saturday afternoon during the opening ceremony of a meeting of Conference of Former Speakers of State Houses of Assembly of Nigeria. Sen. Lalong is the chairman of the conference.
According to www.pointblank.com.ng, the meeting had 127 former Speakers from all over Nigeria in attendance.
Lalong said “Let all of us and all Nigerians support our president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has continued to pursue the path of renewing the hope of the nation”.
Acknowledging the impacts of petroleum subsidy removal, the former DG said “No doubt some of the programs, like the removal of petrol subsidy, have impacted on the lives of the people. However, we need to give these policies some time to mature so that we can benefit from the gains they bring.”
Declaring open the conference, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, himself a former Speaker challenge his colleagues to bring their wealth of experience to bear to help the nation reduce the leadership deficient it is currently experiencing. Fintiri said: “No one passes through this hatchery and come out with empty brain. We must appreciate this privilege and continue to avail our leadership experiences and skills to Nigeria”
“If there is any time that Nigeria needs ex-speakers’ leadership acumen, experiences and unity of purpose, to mitigate its towering challenges of survival, “the hour is now” Fintiri said.
