The Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Pankshin Branch, in it’s determination to promote dialogue, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence amongst the diverse ethnic groups in Plateau State has introduced Human Rights Desk at the branch as a pivotal tool for human rights protection as the route to peace.
This was disclosed by W.A Awe, Esq Chairman of the branch on Wednesday, 20/3/2024 when he led the branch on a condolence visit to HRH Da John Putmang Hirse, Mishakam Mwahgwavul, the paramount ruler of the Mwahgwavul nation.
In his words, Awe Esq said “the Human Rights Desk is a Platform to address grievances, mediate conflicts and facilitate communication amongst warrying parties. By prompt reporting and documenting inhumane actions, it holds transgressors accountable, deterring future incidents and contributing to a peaceful coexistence”.
Awe Esq noted that “your Royal Majesty’s relentless pursuit of justice and equity resonates with the ideals of our association, establishing foundations for unprecedented legal growth and development. Leveraging on your ideals, we’re confident that the Human Rights Desk will be utilized maximally to manage conflicts. The Branch is willing to offer PRO BONO services to the good people of Mwahgwavul nation”
It will be recalled that Mangu, Bokkos and Barkin Ladi LGAs have recently been under unprovoked attacks by unknown gunmen killing several people and destroying properties.
In paying tribute to Mishakam Mwahgwavul, Pankshin Branch acknowledges and lauds his unswerving commitment towards impartial justice despite the spate of unprovoked attacks. The branch observed that the gallant strides and influence of the Monarch permeates beyond monarchial sphere into democratic fabric of Nigeria as a whole and pledges to support the Monarch in his efforts to relocate his people back to their ancestral home
Speaking earlier, M.D Karishma, the immediate past Chairman of the branch, appreciated the paramount ruler for granting the Association audience and sincerely pray God to give the Mwahgwavul nation the fortitude to bear the losses. “In bleak times like this, words alone cannot comfort you. We sincerely pray God Almighty to give you the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses suffered during recent incessant attacks on your people. While it’s as disheartening as sacrilegious, we’re confident in your Royal Majesty’s antecedents to reconcile all ethnic groups domicile in your domain”.
According to www.pointblank.com.ng, the visibly consoled yet worried Royal Father, Da Hirse lamented the land grabbing tactics of the invaders and the high level of inequality by the security agencies in protecting citizens in Mangu and urge that the Branch should speak up and condemn in totally the level of compromise by our security agencies.
He advised that once the constitution is amended or reviewed we should support it and this would reduce this level of inequality among our security agencies.
