PLASU RESUMPTION UPDATE: Students To Resume In Batches, To Pay #7,000 As Cost Of Properties Vandalized And To Provide Letter Of Undertaking To Be Of Good Behaviour To Be Signed By District Head Before Resuming

Management of Plateau State University, Bokkos has provided more clarification on the resumption of academic activities in the school following the temporary suspension of examinations on Friday, 19th April, 2024 due to unknown gunmen attack on Chikam Community, a settlement close to the school where thousands of the University’s students reside. In a press release (3) on Saturday, 27 April, 2024 and made available to www.pointblank.com.ng on Sunday, 28 April 2024, Mr Yakubu F. Ayuba, the Registrar of the university listed the conditions students must meet before resuming which include payment of #7,000 as cost of properties damaged during the riot of 19th April, 2024. The University had earlier announced that administrative activities are to resume on Monday, 29 April, 2024

“Arising from the suspension of academic activities in Plateau State University, Bokkos on Friday, 19th April, 2024, Management has reviewed the situation, vis-à-vis efforts put in place by the Management, the Plateau State Government, Security Agencies and other stakeholders, and decided that the University is to open to students on Thursday, 2nd May, 2024”

“The resumption is to be in batches, beginning with 200 and 300 Level students who are to resume on Thursday, 2nd May, 2024, while their examinations will continue from Monday, 6th May, 2024”

“100 and 400 level students are to resume on Monday, 20th May, 2024 preparatory to contuining their examinations from Wednesday, 22nd May, 2024”.

The Secretary to the Council added that “the reviewed first semester examination time table is available in the respective departments, faculties and on the University’s website: www.plasu.edu.ng

However, students are to take notice and note the following followings that must be met before resumption

“Meanwhile, all students are to TAKE NOTE and COMPLY with the following conditions for resumption:

  1. All students are to pay a fine of Seven Thousand Naira (#7,000) each as cost of properties damaged during the riot of 19th April, 2024. The procedure for the payment is available on the University website and notice board
  2. Only student who have paid their school fees are to resume and continue with their examinations.
  3. Each student is to bring a letter, undertaking to be of subsequent good behaviour; witnessed by a traditional ruler not below the status of a District Head. Students who are not of Plateau State origin are permitted to bring the stated letter from a recognized community leader. A copy of the letter is available on the University’s website for download and subsequent processing by each student.

The University warned that “KINDLY NOTE: All conditions outlined above are to be STRICTLY adhered to before access will be granted to the University and Examination Halls”
