In fulfilment of one of it’s core mandates as a citadel of learning, which includes community service, the Vice Chancellor of the Plateau State University, Prof Bernard Matur and his management staff yesterday exhibited rare show of empathy and service to humanity by visiting Mangu Local Government to condole with the people and equally donated relief materials to the people who are victims of unprovoked attacks by herdsmen
Prof Matur who was received by the paramount ruler of the Mwaghavul nation, Nda John Hirse expressed the university’s sad feelings over the unprovoked attacks on innocent people that have continued unabated. He prayed God to repose the souls of the victims and grant speedy recovery to those with varying degrees of wounds.
The fifth substantive Vice Chancellor of the State University stressed that no meaningful achievement can be achieved in an atmosphere of war and rancour. He urged the people to unite against the barbaric killers saying “there’s no any form of opposition that a united people cannot overcome”.
Prof Matur applauded the exceptional leadership demonstrated by Gov Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang so far in tackling the security challenge that has been bedeviling the State for over two decades. He called for prayers for more wisdom and courage for the governor to succeed in confronting the heartless killers. The Vice Chancellor noted that just like Bokkos where the University is situated, insecurity has been ravaging the area but the governor’s exceptional commitment to address the situation is commendable. He lamented how the insecurity has temporarily affected the visitation of National Council on Legal Education that would have given the University the necessary accreditation to commence Law Faculty.
The Vice Chancellor accompanied by the University’s Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Mr Yakubu Ayuba donated relief materials that included mattresses, foodstuffs etc
Responding, the Miskaham Mwaghavul, Nda John Hirse appreciated the university’s kind humanitarian gesture and expressed the gratitude of Mwaghavul nation to the university. He said the Mwaghavul nation will remain peaceful and law-abiding while calling on the security agencies to redouble their efforts to totally arrest the deteriorating security situation.
