Today, 9th February, 2024 tears rolled uncontrollably as the remains of Late Barr Dan Gwaza, a Sports Legal Luminary was laid to rest in his family compound at Shaka, Gold and Base, Jos. Friends and family battled with emotions as the fond memories of life and times of the deceased was for recounted as sympathizers gathered to pay their last respect.
Speaking at the Church service held at Evangelical Church Winning All, (ECWA) Plateau Church, Lamingo Road, Jos, Reverend Peter Salawu described death as a path to heaven. Supporting his topic with biblical scriptures, Rev Salawu took his reading from the book of 2Corinthians 5:1-10. “Even when this body is destroyed by physical death, God has prepared another one for us in heaven” encourages the clergy.
Rev Salawu said “Our body is just clay, grass, flower, dust and perishable. It flourishes in the sunrise and withers at sunset. The body must transform through death for us to meet our Lord and savior Jesus Christ”. He however, charges christians that “Before it comes to our turn, let’s get ourselves prepared”. He reminded believers that “the coming of the Lord is closer now than last week”.
Reading further from 1Corinthians 15:50-55, the clergyman reminded everyone that it’s mandatory for everyone to die oncy after which is judgement. He emphasized the vanity of this world and warned believers against idolizing materialism at the detriment of their salvation.
Earlier, Mrs Helen Dan Gwaza, wife of the deceased described her husband as the best thing that has happened to her and her family. The visibly emotional and tearful widow alongside her family extolled the virtues of Barr Gwaza. Nigeria Bar Association through her Chairman, the ECWA Men’s Forum, the Church and Colleagues said Barr Gwaza will be solely missed.
Barr Dan Gwaza specialized in sports lawyering and has spent over two decades serving in one capacity or the other at both Nigeria Football Federation and Plateau State Football Association, PFA where just recently last year, he was appointed by Nigeria Football Federation, NFF into Normalization Committee that midwife the election that brought the present board of Plateau State Football Association
A devoted Christian and a humanitarian with unparalleled empathy for others, Barr Dan Gwaza surprisingly passed on to glory on Saturday, 3rd February, 2024 few hours after he went about his routine activities with usual strength and passion. He left behind His Wife, 3 Children and brothers who include Benjamin Gwaza and Philip Gwaza.
